It has become very clear that as a global society we rely heavily upon mass media resources to inform us on current issues. As environmental issues such as climate change begin to effect us all around the world, the goal of this project is to better understand and evaluate the information provided by our nation's newspapers. After understanding how environmental progress can been made through mass media, it will become clear that although this form of communication isn't perfect, it provides us with the ability to connect with large groups of people simultaneously. This project attempted to recreate through art, an interpretation of how environmental issues are represented in mass media. By creating what can be referred to as research based art, I created a series of collages representing issues in climate change that have been brought to the public's eye. These collages were made by collecting headlines from numerous newspapers across the country on climate change issues. By combining all of these different perspectives of the many climate change issues, I attempted to provide viewers with a medium to see all of the opinions and facts at once. In order to create a place to view the artwork and for viewers to leave feedback I have organized a blog that will be accessible to anyone with a connection to the internet. This blog will not only provide alternate framing for current issues from an aesthetic perspective, but also as an information and communication source by providing multiple insights through viewers comments and my own.
